Pig Swine Pandemic-Stop the HYSTERIA

Turn off your television and get REAL. Yes, THIS is scary but the media craze is out of control - don't believe everything you SEE, READ, or HEAR.
and...please hold hands, use public toilets, go to the gym, and avoid Michael Jackson masks. Fear disempowers us, so stop being so scared and take action! People thrive on disaster why oh why?
Rather than feeding into the collective obsession with death and despair, DO SOMETHING - ANYTHING. There are many other "pandemics" that NEED YOUR TIME AND ENERGY. A few that come to mind: environmental and immigration policy, Western Imperialism, increased economic segregation between First and Third world countries (despite globalization and to the benefit of the sexy hegemonic nations), the slaughtering and abuse of animals (don't get me started on the environmental and HEALTH issues that stem from the meat industry), and a very unsustainable healthcare system based on a dated medical model that FAILS to treat the US mental health epidemic, overcrowded mostly black prisons, hmm. i know, unrelated and off topic. Like most successful relationships, we need to pick our battles wisely - and I don't think swine influenza is where it's at. This is going to pass (SARS, anyone) but the other stuff continues, and bears a heavy burden on the future health of our world. if i hear that you are wasting time washing your hands excessively (OCD is so American) or avoiding people that "just got in from Mexico", I'm going to call you out on it and I may turn into a piglet.

Mapping the Buzz

***From NYtimes April 6, 2009. This is neat, but where's SF? oh...

"Below are maps from a study, called “The Geography of Buzz.” The authors, Elizabeth Currid, an assistant professor in the School of Policy, Planning and Development at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and Sarah Williams, the director of the Spatial Information Design Lab at Columbia University‘s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, mined thousands of photographs from Getty Images that chronicled flashy parties and smaller affairs on both coasts for a year, beginning in March 2006. The maps show the density of different types of cultural events in New York and Los Angeles."

Greetings,

I have been bequeathed one komboucha mother. I have no idea what the fuck to do with it in order to make it into the drink that I spend 15$/week on. Anyone care to help out?

To sweeten the deal, I will throw in a night on the town that can include a muni ride, pizza, smoking weed and having a drink. We can also talk about books, music, and life.

Let me know! Tall ladies preferred.

Happy Passover

Dylan, poet, cultural critic. differentiation and the existential quest for wholeness

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didnt you?
Peopled call, say, beware doll, youre bound to fall
You thought they were all kiddin you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin out
Now you dont talk so loud
Now you dont seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

Youve gone to the finest school all right, miss lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out youre gonna have to get used to it
You said youd never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
Hes not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And ask him do you want to make a deal?

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it aint no good
You shouldnt let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a siamese cat
Aint it hard when you discover that
He really wasnt where its at
After he took from you everything he could steal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
Theyre drinkin, thinkin that they got it made
Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things
But youd better lift your diamond ring, youd better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you cant refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
Youre invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
